Direct Energy Services (New Leaf) is one of the largest electric providers in Texas with over 615,000 residential customers in 2020. They have made some investments through contracts in renewable energy, and offer cost-competitive 100% renewable options, as well as providing energy saving and demand response programs. Unfortunately, they do not appear to offer information about net-metering, community solar, or programs for electric vehicle owners. In 2020, Direct Energy was bought by NRG, the same company that owns Reliant, Green Mountain Energy and several other retail electric providers, and is also an owner of coal and gas plants.

Direct Energy is one of the largest REPs in Texas, and has signed at least 3 PPAs with renewable energy companies for wind power. Recently, they completed a much larger PPA with a solar farm called the Corazon Energy Solar Project. They were recently bought by NRG-Reliant Energy.
