The utility generates and distributes electricity to more than 100,000 customers in the Lubbock area. Currently, the municipal utility gets a relatively small percentage of its electricity from renewable resources. Recently, the utility completed the process of becoming part of the ERCOT market. As part of that process, it allows for retail electric competition in its service area. Thus, consumers in Lubbock will need to choose their service provider in the competitive market.
